CHICAGO, February 3, 2023 – S&C Electric Company, a leader in grid modernization, will showcase its solutions for grid resilience and reliability in booth 3213 at DISTRIBUTECH International 2023 in San Diego. Featured among several leading-edge solutions that make the grid of the future possible, S&C will be debuting its new EdgeRestore® Underground Distribution Restoration System.
Easy to install in residential transformers, the EdgeRestore system reduces the impact of lengthy sustained power outages and automatically restores power within 60 seconds. The system modernizes the last mile of underground residential distribution circuits to quickly detect and isolate faults and reroute power from an alternate source. This improves reliability and resilience and eliminates the need for immediate crew intervention, keeping power on until the underlying issue can be resolved. Automatic fault-isolation also greatly simplifies the process for locating faults on underground residential circuits and reduces medium-voltage exposure for crews.
To help utilities navigate the energy transition and deal with increasingly severe weather, S&C offers a holistic approach to grid modernization that provide end-to-end, advanced protection of the distribution system. At DISTRIBUTECH, S&C will feature its VacuFuse® II Self-Resetting Interrupter, TripSaver® II Cutout-Mounted Recloser, IntelliRupter® PulseCloser® Fault Interrupter, and the Vista® Underground Distribution Switchgear product family. These overhead and underground solutions improve reliability and resilience from the substation to the grid edge.
As part of the Distribution Automation conference track, on Wednesday, February 8, from 10:40 a.m. -11:10 a.m. PST, Shane Powell, Power Delivery Data Analytics and Innovation Manager from Alabama Power, will present the session “Spend Money to Save Money: How Alabama Power Calculated ROI from DA Investments.” He will discuss how Alabama Power saved $1.2 million annually in O&M costs by using S&C’s TripSaver II Cutout-Mounted Recloser throughout its system.
S&C will also host the Powered by Diversity Luncheon and Award on February 8 from 11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. PST. The Powered by Diversity Luncheon will bring together leaders from the industry to speak on the topic of workplace diversity and inclusion. This year’s event will feature the inaugural Powered by Diversity Award recognizing a utility demonstrating significant progress toward achieving a DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) workplace.
